Summer in Fallbrook Assisted Living

Summer is almost here, and seniors can take advantage of this season. The longer days and warmer months can be an opportunity to hit the road for vacation or spend time with your loved ones. Seniors on the other hand can benefit from the longer days and more sunshine that they do not get during other seasons.

Seniors in Fallbrook assisted living can make the most of the summer season by:

Getting enough vitamin D

  • Although vitamin D is in foods like fish, egg yolks, red meat, or supplements, direct sunlight can’t be beaten. Vitamin D is essential in regulating calcium in the body supporting strong bones, teeth, and muscles.
  • Bone becomes weak as we age, hence, the importance of getting calcium and protein through diet. An optimum level of vitamin D is necessary to help the body absorb calcium.
  • Don’t forget to keep track of UV levels when soaking up that vitamin D. Always wear sunscreen and really when going outside.
  • The hot weather and natural light are a natural anti-depressant. Senior residents can increase their outdoor activities for fresh air and exercise which can alleviate stress and depression.
  • The cold winter months can bring Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) which can lead to depression, fatigue, and low mood. But with the hot days of summer, residents in Fallbrook assisted living can now go out more often, socialize, and just bask in the sun and enjoy the moment.
  • Summer is also an opportunity to load up on fruits and vegetables with more vitamins. Seniors need to eat a healthy and balanced diet to support healthy skin, bones, muscles, and overall wellness.

Fathers Day Gift Guide For the Dads In Senior Housing

Father’s Day is an important occasion where we honor our father figures for everything that they have done for us. It is the day when we are extra thoughtful because we want them to know we care. However, planning on what to do and what to give can be a challenge if your dad, uncle, or friend is in senior housing. For most senior adults in senior homes, the gift of time from family the most treasured present that will be treasured forever.

Now that Father’s Day is approaching, what can you do with your loved one on that day?

Father’s Day is Just Around the Corner

Father’s Day has been celebrated as St. Joseph’s Day every 19th of March since the middle ages for Catholic countries in Europe.

In the United States, it is celebrated every third Sunday of June since 1910. Since then, many regions and countries in the world adopted the yearly celebration, but on various dates while some have maintained their traditions of honoring the pillars of the family.

The celebration of fatherhood in Catholic Europe dates to 1508. This was commonly celebrated on March 19 as the feast of St. Joseph, referred to in Catholicism as the “Nourisher of the Lord” and the recognized father of Jesus according to Southern Europe tradition.

The customary celebration was then brought by the Spanish and Portuguese to America which was actively supported by the Catholic Church. The Coptic Orthodox Church also celebrates fatherhood on St. Joseph’s Day.

Until today, fatherhood is celebrated worldwide every March 19, but on the third Sunday in June each year. This year, fathers in senior housing and the rest of the world will be honored on Sunday, June 19, 2022.

Plus, most of these food caterers offer an array of meal plans to choose from with no minimum orders.

Emergency Tools/Kit

An emergency flashlight with a charging port can be an awesome gift and lifesaver for senior dads.

Survival Kit

This would be the perfect gift for dads who love to go fishing, camping, hiking, or going on adventures outdoor. Or even if not the adventurous type, a survival kit is still an investment since this is good to have at home or in the car in case of an emergency.

Back/Neck/Shoulder Massager

This is the ultimate Father’s Day gift that almost everyone in senior housing would want to have. This gadget can alleviate muscle tension, soreness, and fatigue for a relaxing day without leaving the comfort of the room.
